Online Birth Certificate Application

Birth certificates in Kenya are crucial documents used in making various applications like KCPE, KCSE, Passport Application, and ID applications and accessing other government services

You can apply for a birth certificate through the E-citizen portal, Huduma Centre, or at the District Birth and Death Registers.

How to Apply for Birth Certificate via E-citizen

1. Create an account for E-citizen
2. After signing in, apply for a birth certificate under the Civil Registration Department (New)
3. Use the parents’ account to apply for children below 18 years.

There are three categories for E-citizen to apply for birth certificates; Child current birth certificate, Adult current, and Late Registration Certificates.

Child’s Current Certificate

This entails applying for a birth certificate with a notification issued at the hospital during birth. Note that it is only applicable at least 30 days after the date of birth.

You will be required to have;

• Scanned birth notification
• Scanned parent’s ID

Charges- Ksh. 180

Steps

1. Fill in the online form
2. Choose a new birth certificate and approve that the child was born in a hospital; for children below two years, you can add an extra name
3. Acknowledge the child is under 18 years
4. Attach the scanned documents
5. Fill in the child’s three names and gender
6. Upload the IDs of parents
7. Select the pickup location. If in Nairobi, the pick-up locations are; Huduma Centers in City Square, Makadara, Eastleigh, Kibera, and GPO, ACK Bishop House.
8. Once the certificate is ready you will be notified.

Late Registration Certificates

Late birth certificates are registered after six months, either by a hospital or chief. Application is made only after getting approval from the Civil Registration services in the ACK Bishop’s Gate office.

Requirements

• Scanned copy of the birth notification
• Scanned copy of the parent’s ID

After approval, follows the procedure above. The charge is ksh.200.

 Adult Current Certificate

These are applications for birth certificates of births that were registered within 6 months.

Requirements

• Scanned copy of the birth notification
• Scanned copy of the parent’s ID

Then follow the procedure above. Charges are KSH. 180.

Application for a lost Birth Certificate

To replace your lost birth certificate, visit the nearest Huduma Centre, which will help you get a new one. Consult Huduma Centre agents for more advice in case of any amendments of names.

If you lost the birth notification slip, return to the medical facility where the birth occurred and get a copy.
